Meet the PlymTwest Team

The members of the #Plymtwest team are a talented and lovely bunch of Plymouth based people. When not helping raise lots of money for this year’s #Plymtwest charity, the #Plymtwest team use their skills in the workplace. Here we are showcasing the wide variety of skills that the #Plymtwest team have to offer. So please have a read and feel free to get in touch via Twitter.

Mark GloverBuilding the PlymTwest website (that’s right, this one) was a fun experience as the whole team had loads of great ideas for what we wanted it to do. The limit, so to speak, was only in our imaginations. Like the rest of the PlymTwest project, time was against us for the site, and at various points I broke several personal best records for fast development. As a freelance web developer, I know why having an excellent website matters. I pride myself on the quality of my workmanship and my determination to ensure that my clients receive the website that they want and need. I don’t like developers who cut corners or bend a client’s brief to fit what they know how to do. If I don’t know how to do what you need me to do, I learn, and that was certainly the case here!

The whole PlymTwest challenge has been enormous fun, and I’m delighted to be able to bring much needed publicity and funds to the Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer through our hard work.

Claire MeredithI like making business happy. Whether through teaching new platforms such as Facebook or Twitter, marketing and networking, or just some fresh thinking, I aim to give my clients a renewed vision, energy and enthusiasm for what they are doing. Twitter is a massive phenomenon for business and social media can be used to make connections, collaborate and inform you of the latest developments and insights in your industry. Twestival is an example of social media being used in the best possible way: to help others. I wanted to get involved in to promote a great cause, meet business people from the area and put on a great event for the people of Plymouth.

Edward McCaughanI’m a local freelance web developer, juggler and aspiring events organiser. I’m always interested in using the power of the internet to come up with new ways of helping charities fundraise and carry out their mission, so twestival is the perfect opportunity to team up with some awesome people and put my skills to use for a good cause.

Jason StanleySo where to start? Well as my Twitter bio states, I’m an American graphic designer, born in Iceland and currently working in the UK (confusing I know).

I try to be creative with everything I do and apply my skills wherever needed so when the chance came to be a part of Twestival I jumped at it! I became involved with the Plymouth Twestival in 2010 and have been lucky enough to work with such a fantastic team again this year! As with last year, I was asked to create our Plymouth Twestival logo and help design most of the marketing material for the event. This year I’ve added the programme of events and the e-book to that list! It’s such a great opportunity to use my skills to help a charity organisation and give something back!

What I enjoy most about designing is that I’m always learning. There’s always a new idea around the corner and there’s always plenty of inspiration to find online or offline. Through using Twitter I’ve met so many like-minded people that have enabled me to share and experience design across a new medium. There’s a brilliant community growing and it’s helping me improve my method of working and the actual work itself!

I have to admit I initially joined Twitter rather reluctantly but through exploring the different things you can use Twitter for, I have now become a fan. One of the great things about Twitter is Twestival and in particular how in Plymouth it has brought together a varied bunch of people to raise money for a fantastic local charity.

What else can I say… Twitter has also allowed me to learn from other educationalists across the globe and as a current education student at the University of Plymouth this has been really useful to me.

I also enjoy volunteering and have been involved in different projects during my time studying in Plymouth but I still felt like I wanted to take a more active role in the Plymouth community, so when the chance to join the Plymtwest team came up, I came on board.
