Jeremiah’s Journey

Jeremiah’s Journey is a Plymouth charity that offers support and information to children and their families who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special. Over the last year they have seen nearly 200 children and their families and are the only service in the city that offers this level of support.

The main part of their service is to run a short term therapeutic group programme for bereaved children, young people and their parents or carers. The group sessions use creative activities to enable the children and young people to express their feelings of grief; share their memories of their deceased loved one; and explore ways of coping.  At the end of the programme they take all of the families on a trip to an adventure park where they can have lots of fun together.

Recently they have developed the part of their service that offers help to young people who have a parent who is terminally ill. They now run a therapeutic group for these young people; this has been used in national consultations as it is one of the first of its kind in the UK.

Through their recent awareness raising campaigns they have produced a resource to be used in every school in Plymouth; through this they are continuing to build our profile within the public sector.

Jeremiah’s Journey receives no funding from public bodies and generates all their income from local fundraising activity – you could change a bereaved child’s life:

  • £225 will fund a place for one bereaved child on their  group programme and provide individual or family support from a member of the clinical team

Jeremiah’s Journey supports many children and families within Plymouth whom without that support would find life going forward far more difficult. Keep up the good work

My daughter has been through the programme offered by Jeremiah’s Journey and it has made a tremendous difference to all our lives. Before going on the programme, the loss of her brother was constantly on her mind. She couldn’t concentrate, would cry at school every day and was unable to lead a normal life. The programme run by Jeremiah’s journey has given her her life back. Of course she still has tremendous sadness in her heart but she can now manage those feelings and has learned to smile again. I can’t thank Jeremiah’s Journey enough. A marvellous organisation.

I have nothing but admiration for all that Jeremiah’s Journey is doing to help young people cope with a tragic loss in their family. I just wish they had been around to help me when my Father died some 64 years ago when I was only 10.

As a father, when I found out about the charity I was touched by the dedicated support that Jerahmiah’s Journey provides to all they have contact with and to know that an organisation like this exists provides great comfort for all parents. Here are a marvellous group of special people who have, can and will make a difference to young people and families in their time of critical vulnerability and sincere need.

This charity as one of a kind it helps children grieve for a loved one or someone close to them, to adults this is hard and can be unbearable for some people the fact that they offer a child help get through what may be the hardest time in their life is commendable and they fully deserve to win, there are not many like this out there and Plymouth having a charity like this really is a great thing!

Having worked with this charity for several years as an Oncology Nursing Sister at Derriford Hospital, I am fully aware of the huge impact this charity has on so many families. As a mother of two beautiful children, I am delighted such a fabulous charity exists but it needs our support. Please, please support this charity and the amazing work it does day in day out.
